Myths and Ideologies in the United States

This course will focus on one or more components of U. S. national mythology, such as the United States as the land of opportunity and success, the United States as the nation of nations, the United States as a new land free of history, and the United States as a light to all nations. The course will consider the origin and development of such myths, their deployment in a number of different areas of U. S. culture and social life, and their truth or falsity.
