An introductory literature course that focuses on a popular genre–– e.g. Sci Fi/Fantasy, Dystopian, Children’s/YA, or Detective Fiction, or creative non-fiction. Genre is understood not only in the traditional way of categorizing types of literature, such as poetry, short stories, the novel, or the epic, but also as a broader method of conveying information, aesthetic pleasure, and cultural/historical content to an audience through literature.
