AMERICAN MINORITIES

Austin Community College District

CourseSOCI 2319

In sociology, minority groups are defined as social groups that have experienced inequality in terms of power and resources relative to a dominant group. This includes not only racial and ethnic groups but also groups based on class, gender, sexuality, age, disabilities, etc. This course examines the experiences of U.S. minority groups and the relationships between minorities and majorities. A sociological framework is used to understand these dynamics, both currently and historically.
