Detailed information about this program

Child Development introduces students to the essential concepts and skills needed to work effectively with children and families. This course focuses on the growth and development of children from birth through adolescence in the four domains of development (physical, social, intellectual, and emotional) and invites students to explore the challenges and opportunities that arise when dealing with children throughout infancy and childhood. It also provides opportunities to examine the role of caregivers, educators, and others in supporting children’s development. This course is designed to prepare students for further study and careers in family and community services. A fully-equipped, residential-style kitchen is recommended but not required. Career and Technical Student Organizations are integral, co-curricular components of each career and technical education course. These organizations enhance classroom instruction while helping students develop leadership abilities, expand workplace-readiness skills, and access opportunities for personal and professional growth. Students in the Human Services cluster affiliate with Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
