Sports Medicine II extends the content of Sports Medicine I with strong emphasis on musculoskeletal injuries and on psychological and sociological responses to injuries and illness. The course also emphasizes critical thinking, oral and written communication of anticipated outcomes, and patient care skills related to prevention, rehabilitation, and management. Course content incorporates basic pathophysiology, kinesiology, and principles of treatment. Analysis of a variety of health situations related to the sports medicine pathway is also included through project-based learning, laboratory activities, and simulation. Career and Technical Student Organizations are integral, co-curricular components of each career and technical education course. These organizations enhance classroom instruction while helping students develop leadership abilities, expand workplace-readiness skills, and access opportunities for personal and professional growth. Students in the Health Science cluster affiliate with HOSA–Future Health Professionals.
