Overview This is a three-day classroom and laboratory course that takes place over two half-days and two full days. The emphasis will be on developing an understanding of the ALDOT Procedure for the Acceptance of Fine and Coarse Aggregates (ALDOT Procedure 249). The test procedures for acceptance of aggregates will be demonstrated, and there will be an opportunity for students to get hands-on training. Covered procedures include: Sampling aggregates Materials finer than No. 200 sieve Unit weight and voids in aggregate Sieve analysis for fine and coarse aggregates Reducing field samples to testing size Sampling from a conveyor belt Sampling and testing of riprap stone Drying soil and aggregate samples for field testing Determining flat and elongated particles in coarse aggregate Applicants must have a minimum of 6 months’ work experience in current classification to register for this course.
