This badge recognizes participants who completed the Advanced level of Round One of the Presidential 1776 Award, the U.S. Department of Education national civics competition announced as part of the America 250 celebration to enhance students' understanding of civics and knowledge of America's founding. The Advanced level was the third and most challenging of the three 30-minute timed sections in the online multiple-choice test, designated as Level 3 in the test structure with difficulty pre-validated by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation.

The Advanced section consisted of complex knowledge questions intended to differentiate top performers, with each correct Advanced answer worth 2.0 points under the weighted scoring rubric, which followed an Item Response Theory model so that more challenging questions had a greater impact on the final score. Performance on the Advanced section also served as the first tiebreaker for participants tied for fourth and fifth place or for the second alternate position, with the student who answered the greater number of Advanced questions correctly winning the tie.
