Detailed information about this program

5Keys Safe Driving is our signature course. Based on The Smith5Keys®, this course teaches drivers the critical behaviors needed to help prevent crashes and save lives. Combining online instruction with expert-led, in-vehicle training, 5Keys Safe Driving delivers immersive, real-world lessons for long-term safety performance behind the wheel. We do this by teaching drivers how to see, think and control their way through various driving environments, challenges, and changes. This enables them to gain the tools they need to drive proactively, regardless of where they drive or the vehicles they operate. How Does it Work? Preparation begins with online instruction about the principles behind the Smith5Keys. This helps help trainees understand three essential driving behaviors: creating space, improving visibility, and allowing time to react. They put these behaviors to work in individual sessions with a Smith System coach, spending at least two hours behind the wheel in real-world situations. By applying The Smith5Keys in actual on-road conditions, this blended course builds confident, capable and safety-focused drivers. When finished, drivers receive a Certificate of Completion, a Driver’s Study Guide, and individualized recommendations. They also gain use of Smith System’s on-line portal. Open Enrollment If you are a single driver, a small team, or in a remote location, our Open Enrollment courses are a good choice. 5Keys Safe Driving, and many other Smith System courses, are held throughout the year in small classes across the U.S. and Canada, supported by over 70 years of our Driver Risk Management expertise.
